Jaffa Road in Jerusalem becomes pedestrian walkway

Jaffa Road in the 19th century / American Colony

From Sunday, Jaffa Road, the main street in Jerusalem, will become a modern pedestrian walkway free of car traffic, lined with retail and ready for the light rail, INN reports. Jaffa Road serves as the main route for foot travel to the Western Wall and Temple Mount, and by bus and rail it connects the Old City, the city center, the Central Bus Station and the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway. The new developments are widely expected to boost business for Israeli stores along the road, which serve the millions tourists who pass through Jerusalem every year.
